Theme
Traditional white weddings can be lovely and very memorable. They also can be dry and "been there, done that." Not everyone wants the same kind of wedding as "everyone else."
Many couples are choosing to do something a little (or a lot) different and adopt
themes for their weddings. The theme could be historic, ethnic, holiday, or anything else the imagination can conjure up. Costumes and special clothing are usually an important part of the festivities whether confined to just the wedding party or the guests are invited to dress up too.
Customs vary according to the theme.Halloween parties involve costumes and decor reflecting the holiday's symbols.
Some couples have even been known to have
the ceremony in a cemetery. Instead of the usual tiered cake, sometimes people opt for something a bit more gruesome.
Historical themes are quite popular. They offer interesting costumes for the wedding party, guests, and even the minister to wear. The decorations, food, location, customs, etc. can reflect the time period.
Ethnic weddings are also an interesting trend. Sometimes you have a couple whose families are from different backgrounds so elements from both cultures
will be incorporated. A couple might incorporate "jumping the broom" to honor the groom's ethnicity and bagpipes and haggis to bring in traditions from the bride's family, for instance.
